We regularly receive handwritten letters from learners and mentors across prisons. This letter is a poem written by one of our learners, Mark*, from HMP Gartree, about his experience working with Shannon Trust.

Poem transcript:

Shannon's Trust – A Learning Experience

I would like to say a big thank you to Shannon's Trust for all the people

you have helped to read, and Shannon's Trust thank you because I am

one of those people, you was there when I was in need.

Shannon's Trust opened my world to one full of possibility, and the more I read and learned each step

along the way I vastly improved my ability!

I recently spoke to a mentor and a member of staff, and they told me Shannon's Trust mentors not

only help you read but they can also teach you maths!!

Shannon's Trust is a gift that keeps on giving. The things you teach us not only improve our

life but also our day to day living!

You help us build our confidence and to gain new skills, taught in a simple and enjoyable way with

Shannon's Trust. There is no pressure or no military drills!!

You will see Shannon's Trust mentors in blue T-shirts around the prison, but don't worry because it says Shannon's Trust

on the back just in case you have colour impaired vision!

If you are in need of Shannon's Trust please speak to a mentor or put in an app or click us at

the library, come give us a shout.

Everyone is welcome at Shannon's Trust. Our aim is to make it easier to learn which will

help with your life in prison of this we have no doubt!

So what are you waiting for? Put yourself forward and take that first step, and apply today or ask the staff for

your nearest blue T-shirted Shannon's Trust rep!
