Our Success

The Toe by Toe Reading Plan has received positive recognition from:

  • The Prison Officer’s Association (POA) since 2003;
  • The House of Commons Education and Skills Committee Report on Prison Education1, which in 2005 called on the Government to support plans such as the Toe by Toe Reading Plan;
  • The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) Offenders’ Learning and Skills Unit which produced a report in 2005 on the benefits of the Toe by Toe Reading Plan to offenders2;
  • The House of Commons Home Affairs Committee Report on Rehabilitation of Prisoners3 commended the Toe by Toe Reading Plan as a model of good practice;
  • The Department for Education and Skills funded the Toe by Toe reference pack to highlight how the Toe by Toe Reading Plan fits with the Government’s strategy to improve adult literacy4;
  • The Centre for Social Justice which awarded Shannon Trust a top honour in 2006.
  • The Shannon Trust was awarded the Lord Longford prize in recognition of its positive contribution to learning in prisons, 2004.
