Volunteer with us
Prisoners teaching prisoners to read makes sense. But it's made possible by Shannon Trust volunteers who work with prison staff to advise, support and grow the reading plan in each prison.
Shannon Trust volunteers believe passionately that everyone should have the opportunity to learn to read; they see lives being changed by Shannon Trust’s peer mentored approach which is simple and effective.
Shannon Trust has around 125 volunteers, many of whom have a designated prison they support through regular monthly visits. Others act as coordinators for a team of prison representatives in a given geographical area, their role is to build team support and offer a point of contact for advice and guidance.
If you want to support the cause but prison visiting is not for you, we also have openings for Area Secretaries who provide administrative support to an area coordinator and area team.
